I bought the 12 month X-Box Live subscription as a gift for my Father. I saved him ~$12 on the auto-renewal through Live and he gets the same amount of enjoyment from it.

For those that don’t know, on the X-Box 360, in order to play games with friends or download some time limited material (some demos are released earlier for Gold members), you must have an X-Box Live Gold account. The Silver account is the free account, which allows you to do some limited style chatting and download games, demos, videos and more all from a free account (requires registration with Microsoft).

With the X-Box 360 though, playing with friends is where the fun is out when it comes to on-line experiences. And in order to do this, you must have a Gold account.

When you break down the price of the 12 month + 1 subscription (roughly $40 as of this writing), you pay the equivalent of ~$3 a month to play on-line and download the above mentioned time limited material. The one month is more than twice this price per month, while the 3 month is roughly twice as much as this is. If you want to save yourself some money and expect to want to play on-line on the 360 with your friends for the year, this is the card to buy.

For those that are wondering, if you purchase this card and already have a Live subscription of some sort, and wish to use it, you can. Simply log into your account via your 360 or log in to Live while you’re using a browser on your PC and you will have an option to input the code from the back of the card. This will add the face value (13 months for this card) to your subscription.

This card should not be confused with the Microsoft Points cards available. With the points cards you will add points to your Live (Gold or Silver) so that you can purchase content (games, videos and more)

12 months via Microsoft = $49.99 = $4.17/month
12+1 months via Amazon = $45.00 = $3.46/month

This card comes with THIRTEEN (13) months of Xbox Live for cheaper than directly from Xbox. I fully recommend purchasing Live via Amazon, but the choice is yours.
